The Spillway

Spillway revived

By Amy Dodson / Adviser

When Dale Hollow Lake experiences unusually high elevations, Clay Countians observe a rare occurrence as water rushes over the spillway. Water is channeled into the Obey as the overflow is allowed to traverse its odyssey from the headwaters, down the short trek of the Obey, into the Cumberland and onward toward the Atlantic.  So it is most appropriate that a high school positioned on the west bank of the Cumberland River just a few miles downstream from Dale Hollow Dam re-launch a scholastic publication bearing the name “Spillway.”The name of the newspaper serves a twofold purpose.  Not only is it indicative of a local landmark, but it is also an apt metaphor.  As the intellectual creativity arises from the fecund minds of CCHS students, the collective academic energy reaches higher and higher elevations.  The spillway is the release valve, as students release their creative waters across its pages.  The Spillway will host school news, opinions, reviews and a little taste of humor. As the paper makes its debut, be sure to checkout the appearance of “He Said/She Said,” a regular humor column devoted to the age-old battle of the sexes.  The Spillway is school sponsored and student-produced.  Advertising revenue pays for the publication, so each member of the student body, faculty and staff will receive a free paper each issue.
